Hours after the deadly October 7 Hamas assault against Israeli civilians, the former professor took to X to write, “PALESTINIAN MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE IN PEACE AND WITH DIGNITY IN THEIR OWN LAND. THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AS LONG AS THE SETTLER COLONIAL STATE OF ISRAEL EXISTS.” Soon after, Texas Tech placed Fúnez-Flores on paid leave.
